Trick Question: What is the Healthy Homes heating capacity of an 8.0 kW heat pump in Christchurch City?

(In fairness, we did say it is a trick question.)

If you guessed 8.0 kW, you would be wrong. The answer is 5.76 kW.

This is because the Healthy Homes standard requires your heating capacity in Christchurch to be calculated when the outside temperature is -4 degrees C.

Now, we all know that as the outside temperature decreases, our heat pump struggles to keep up and our houses get colder. The Healthy Homes standard makes allowance for this (as we have done for over a decade) meaning many existing heat pumps won’t comply with the new regulations.

We supply and install Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric heat pumps because they are the best products available and publish actual test results right down to -10C.

When we install your new heat pump (which needs to comply with the Healthy Homes Standards from 1st July 2019, not 2021) we are 100% sure of the heating capacity and you will not be fined by Tenancy Services. Any heat pump installed from now that doesn’t meet the standard will be one expensive paperweight come 2021.

Not only that, but we will credit your Healthy Homes assessment fee, saving you $249 in the process.
